Knowledge + network + energy = agile meetups

At the beginning of 2024, the first meetup on agile methods was held at Tech Borås. Interest and engagement far exceeded expectations, and it quickly became clear that this would grow into a recurring series for tech enthusiasts in different roles – from managers in large companies to scrum masters, entrepreneurs and students.

Over the course of the year, four meetups were held, each exploring different aspects of agile methods. What they all had in common was a spirit of generous knowledge-sharing, plenty of networking and a high level of enthusiasm. The initiative is led and moderated by Joanna Kiel and Pär Jorwén, both from Ellos Group. They first met at Ellos and quickly discovered a shared passion for leadership and technology development.

“We started by running internal workshops and training sessions for our own teams, but early on we saw a need to create a wider platform in Borås where we could share experiences and learn from one another,” says Pär.

Informal and insightful

The platform they were looking for was a space where people from different organisations could meet in a relaxed setting, gain new perspectives and learn from each other’s experiences. Tech Borås turned out to be a natural fit.

“What has been most rewarding about our meetups is the open, inclusive and truly learning-focused atmosphere. There’s no prestige here – everyone shares both their challenges and their personal insights and tips,” says Joanna.

Each session is built around a theme set in advance. In 2024, topics included the Agile Manifesto, the role of the Scrum Master, the Product Owner role and retrospectives. Based on the theme, Joanna and Pär use different methods to encourage participation and engagement.

“As moderators, we actually try to speak as little as possible. Our role is to create the space – from there, the group leads the discussion towards the challenges they want and need to explore,” Joanna adds.

Why has it been such a success?

“Above all, there’s a clear need for this type of exchange,” says Pär. “With a shared ambition to keep learning and developing, it becomes an important forum for both professional growth and networking. We come together around common interests, learn from each other – and have fun at the same time.”

Joanna agrees:

“I also think it’s important that all of us – including Pär and myself – come in with the mindset that we don’t need to know everything or be the best. We’re here to explore, with curiosity, and learn from one another. It’s inspiring to see the range of expertise that people bring.”

The meetup series continues in 2025, with new sessions and topics to explore.

“If our meetups can contribute, even in a small way, to making someone else’s everyday work more enjoyable or rewarding, then I’m happy,” Pär concludes.
