Best thesis in tech

An award highlighting student innovation and collaboration with industry

At Tech Borås, we want to encourage the next generation of tech talent – those who, through curiosity, knowledge and creativity, are shaping the digital solutions of tomorrow. That’s why we have introduced an award for Best Thesis in Tech, in collaboration with the Department of Information Technology at the University of Borås. The award was presented for the first time in autumn 2025.

The award aims to recognise students who demonstrate academic excellence, a strong innovative mindset and a clear connection to real-world challenges in tech. By highlighting theses that successfully combine theory and practice, we hope to strengthen the link between students and industry. At the same time, we want to inspire more students to think both practically and ambitiously.

About the award

The award is presented to graduating students at the Department of Information Technology at the University of Borås. Theses are nominated by supervisors and examiners, and are then assessed by a jury consisting of representatives from Tech Borås, industry, and the Department of Information Technology. The prize amount is SEK 15,000.

  • Ability to present results clearly

 

Who can be nominated?

To be eligible, the thesis must:

  • Be completed at Bachelor’s, Master’s or Magister level
  • Have received a pass grade (Pass or Pass with Distinction)
  • Be published in DiVA

Celebrating the tech talent of tomorrow

At a time when technology and digitalisation are rapidly reshaping society, academic innovation plays a vital role. Through this award, we aim to inspire students to deepen their knowledge while building meaningful connections with industry.

Award ceremony
The winner is announced at the Thesis Networking Event in November and is also recognised at the graduation ceremony in June the following year. In addition to the prize money, the winner receives a diploma and a written statement from the jury.

Congratulations Hugo and Linus – winners of 2025

Hugo Carlsén and Linus Olsson tackled a highly relevant topic: using AI to support clear and accessible language in public sector texts. Their thesis resulted in a solution based on large language models (LLMs) that provides concrete suggestions for improvement and helps writers follow official writing guidelines. Developed in close collaboration with the Swedish Board of Agriculture, the work is described by the jury as “a shining example of how theory and practice can be combined in a way that truly makes a difference”.
