Improving and Simplifying Internal Processes with AI

About innovation sprint #3

In Innovation Sprint #3, two very different companies – Care of Carl and Tranemo Metal – collaborated to find solutions to challenges they had in common. Both aimed to use AI for image and text recognition to streamline their processes, though in entirely different ways. To tackle these challenges, we assembled a tailored team of researchers from various departments at the University of Borås, along with specialists from the two companies.

Aiming for less manual work and more efficient routines

Care of Carl wanted to use AI for text and image recognition to reduce manual handling in their logistics chain. By training an AI model using neural networks, care labels on new garments can be scanned and the information imported directly into the business system. Instead of multiple steps of manual input, a single human check would suffice. At the same time, Tranemo Metal worked on a similar challenge. They aimed to develop an AI model capable of reading technical drawings and predicting manufacturing time, enabling faster, more accurate, and more efficient quote generation.

Strength and Expertise from Multiple Sources

The innovation sprint was carried out as part of two research projects in which both companies participate: Tech Borås and “Automation and AI Applications in SMEs”, funded by ÅForsk.
